Posted by nisbinfo | Healthy Living | Thursday 26 June 2008 9:55 am

Do you have a stutter or stammer? Are you looking for therapies and techniques to help you to eradicate your speech impediment? Are you more than willing to work hard to overcome your stutter? These are three questions that I would have certainly answered in the positive when I was in my early twenties. I had been struggling with a speech impediment, stuttering, since I had been a young boy and I had basically had enough. I needed to find a solution to stuttering and I needed to find it quick.

Before people start to think that this is a doom and gloom article I will put your mind at rest. I did manage to overcome the stutter when I was aged twenty-two; it was far from easy and it took a great deal of determination but succeed I did.

The available therapies for stuttering have improved tremendously since the time when I had the speech impediment and no longer do people need to accept living life in such a struggle – fluency can be attained.

There are now a number of top quality self-help treatments for stuttering and these include:

1. A seventy minute stuttering therapy DVD. This DVD is available as an automatic download and is also available in a hard disc format.
2. An e-book
3. An audio book
4. A gain-confidence audio book and stuttering DVD package

These products are proving to be ever more popular as people start to become more aware of them, especially in countries such as England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, India, United States and Australia.

What is Reverse Osmosis and How Can it Damage Your Health?

Posted by nisbinfo | Healthy Living | Thursday 19 June 2008 9:55 am

What is reverse osmosis is a common question these days and to also answer what does reverse osmosis do, we need to look at how they work and why they could be harmful to your long term health.

This is a process that exposes water under pressure to a semi permeable membrane with a very fine pore structure. Because most inorganic contaminants have a larger molecular size than water, the membrane rejects certain contaminants, minerals and a large part of the water.

But many synthetic chemicals like pesticides and herbicides have a smaller molecular size than water, they can pass through the filter so another carbon filter is also needed. So what is reverse osmosis good for?

They are quite effective for removing chlorine but when you ask what does reverse osmosis do, it strips out vital minerals like calcium and potassium which we need to remain healthy, otherwise we run the risk of becoming mineral deficient. Many people disagree and say we can get these from our diet, but we absorb them much better from water than any other source.

In fact, the World Health Organization actually sates that we should all drink water with the minerals in.

In addition these systems will discard around 2-3 gallons for every 1 gallon they use and many require a large storage tank and expensive maintenance.

The most effective on the market today, if you want to get rid of 99.9% of all the harmful contaminants and still have those essential minerals left in, are activated carbon filters. The very best have a multi-stage process and ion exchange.

These do not waste water, are very inexpensive to buy starting at around $120 for a countertop, and will leave your water purer and safer than any other system on the market today.

So what is reverse osmosis, well in my opinion it is outdated technology that is best avoided.

Headache Treatments – Using Aromatherapy to Treat Your Headache

Posted by nisbinfo | Healthy Living | Thursday 12 June 2008 9:55 am

While there is a wide variety of pharmaceutical-based headache treatments, most of us would prefer to use natural, homeopathic remedies to relieve our pain.

Using pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen for the occasional headache, or stronger over-the-counter remedies for infrequent migraines is one thing.

But for people that suffer headaches as a regular occurrence, even daily, long-term use of these analgesics can have side effects, so more natural methods are preferable. In many cases, they’re also less expensive.

Aromatherapy is a 1,000 Year Old Practice

Aromatherapy is one of the more popular, and successful, natural treatments for headache relief.

Aromatherapy uses essential oils which have been distilled from plant materials. These essential oils create scents that have a positive benefit to our bodies.

You can usually purchase essential oils at your local pharmacy, or health product store. When you are buying essential oils for homeopathic treatments, make sure that you are purchasing the purest oils you can find.

Lavender, peppermint, sandalwood and eucalyptus are the more effective scents to relieve headaches. I always have a small bottle of peppermint — when I feel a migraine coming on, I put some in an oil warmer. The fragrance fills the room quickly, and sometimes the migraine never arrives.

If you find that your migraine headache is joined by nausea, the scent of ginger may help to soothe your stomach.

You can also blend oils to create combinations that are effective for you. Your local library, or your favorite search engine, are great resources for “recipes” for aromatherapy blends.

How to Use Aromatherapy Scented Oils

One way to use essential oils to treat your headache, is to dot your temples with the oil, and lie down in a quiet room. In about the same amount of time it would take for a pain reliever to take effect, you’ll find your headache is gone.

You can also take a small amount of water (choose a temperature that gives you the most relief) and blend it with about 5 drops of lavender. Moisten a facecloth with the scented liquid, and place it on either your forehead, or your neck, while resting.

My personal favorite is to use a diffuser to fill the air with my chosen scent. Or, relax in a bath filled with bubbles made from unscented bath oil and about eight drops of aromatherapy oils.

If none of those methods appeal to you, try using the inhalation method. Fill a bowl with hot water, and a few drops of essential oil. Lean over the bowl, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the scent, for about five minutes. (Note that if you have respiratory conditions, like asthma, you should avoid this method.)

Remember that even though aromatherapy is a natural treatment for your headache, you should still be cautious about the length of time you expose yourself to a scent. Used in moderation, aromatherapy can be an effective natural treatment for your headache pain.
